The Mystery Thing Revealed: Metal Flowers, Denim Rings

Hi again!  It's time to reveal the answer to this week's Guess The Mystery Thing challenge.  My readers have been trying to identify the mysterious metal flowers in the center of these upcycled blue jean cocktail rings:

Think you know this?  Did anyone guess?

In fact, just a tiny handful of people got this right.  I had thought this would be super easy, but the answers were surprisingly all over the map.

Why did I think it would be so easy?  I've spent most of my life restoring 1920's-era buildings.  This old-fashioned little item is as familiar to me as ice boxes, fuse boxes and built-in ironing board cupboards.

Ready to find out?

I know you are.

Okay, here's the answer.

Mirror rosettes from the hardware store.  (Used to secure a mirror to a wall or cabinet door.)  You can often find a version of these made of clear plastic, but I love the metal ones, don't you?  They're so charming - and I love that they are still around.

Ahhh...another fab crafty supply from the hardware store.

Winners, winners.  This week, top prize goes to the first clever person to guess the answer: Deb!  And our lovely random runner up: Anne P!  Congrats, you two - look for my email, coming soon.

Thanks for playing, my friends!  Come back next time for the DIY tutorial.

  1. Honestly? I have never ever seen them in any hardware store! If I had I would have bought soooooo many of them! Beauitful, would make great molds / pattern stamps for polymer clay, nice jewellery by themselves and more and more...

...I need to find them! :)
