Guess The Mystery Thing: Flowery Orange Baubles

Have you ever played along with my Guess the Mystery Thing challenge?  (It's my guessing-game giveaway, it really makes me happy, and everyone is invited.)  Ready for this week's mystery?  Behold this multi-layered flower necklace:

The flowers also look cute as hair ornaments and bag embellishments.

The mystery: what the heck is that interesting orange stuff?  Be as specific as possible for the win.

Hint: it's not from a hardware store.  (Lately, a few of my readers say they never shop in hardware stores, and want me to limit my Mystery Things to girlie stuff.  Noooo!  I can't stop making hardware upcycles!  They are so much fun, and I am constantly in a home improvement store or electrical warehouse or something macho of that nature.  But I will make you this pledge.  For the rest of 2012, no Mystery Thing shall be derived from anything even remotely testosterone adjacent.)

First person to guess correctly will receive a fabulous prize!  (Namely, your choice of the necklace or two flower hair baubles.)

How it works: leave your guess in the comments.  There'll be two winners: first correct guess and a random winner.  That's right, I said random winner - so even if you don't know (or think someone else already got it), enter anyway, you could still win.  If your guess is funny, it might make my Most Creative Honor Roll.

This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere.  C'mon, join in!

THE ONE AND ONLY RULE

1. UNLESS YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS ONE CLICK AWAY IN AN ONLINE PROFILE, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH YOUR GUESS.

Ready?  Set!  Guess the Mystery Thing!

UPDATE: THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED.  THANKS FOR PLAYING, EVERYONE!

  5. That is the non stick, shelf liner material, in orange. I'm mostly sure of it.

The bit of sheen it has is what tipped me over from guessing that it was one of those 'dry' sponges, you know, the ones which you soak in water and they grow twice their size. Yeah, that. Not that it's my guess anymore, but that's what I leaped to when I first saw.

  7. My first thought was that rubbery non-slip mat stuff for putting on shelves, but that stuff's usually more coarse. Is it an orange-coloured shammy? (polishing cloth.. whatever they're called!)

  14. It's a leathery looking orange place-mat or bathmat?
Or what happens to orange construction paper when you live it outside too long.

  15. I think someone left some flip flips with orange flowers on them OUTSIDE the hardware store because they had to change into boots and you FOUND THEM, picked them up and brought them home. THUS, the rule that it is not from a hardware store still applies....

  18. I definitely think its those bath tub stickers used to prevent slipping. I actually use them in my sneaker orthopedics to keep my feet from sliding around! lol - I love the filigree item, what is that made of? fairy lace? or dragonfly wings? - kitty.demeo@gmail.com

  19. The non-stick mat that goes under rugs on hardwood or stone floors.

That or some fashionista is missing her thin pleather coat for the Tangerine Tango of 2012. (Seriously who has a job that allows them to sit all day to make up the names for colors?)
