Guess The Mystery Thing: Branchy Coral Starbursts

Thinking caps on, everybody!  Let's play a new round of my giveaway guessing game, Guess The Mystery Thing!  Take a look at my latest upcycled jewels.  A delicate pendant (with a real coral bead in the center!)...

...and a freaky fun, fantastical statement ring.

Your challenge: identify the mysterious secret ingredient.  What are those coral-colored, branchy-looking dealie-bobbles, poking out in a starburst pattern?

You may have a general idea...be as specific as possible for the win.

First person to guess correctly will receive a fabulous prize!  (Namely, your choice of one of these jewels.)

How it works: leave your guess in the comments.  There'll be two winners: first correct guess and a random winner.  That's right, I said random winner - so even if you don't know (or think someone else already got it), enter anyway, you could still win.  If your guess is funny, it might make my Most Creative Honor Roll.

This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere.  C'mon, join in!

THE ONE AND ONLY RULE

1. UNLESS YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS ONE CLICK AWAY IN AN ONLINE PROFILE, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH YOUR GUESS.  (Fun fact: if you only THINK your email is visible in your profile, it probably isn't.)

Ready?  Set!  Guess the Mystery Thing!

UPDATE: THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED.  CHECK MY NEXT POST FOR THE REVEAL.  THANKS FOR PLAYING, EVERYBODY!

  1. I have no idea...but they remind me of when I was kid and played with Legos...the snap on pieces of leaves... except those were green... :)

  2. I know! I know! The berries from the middle of fake flowers like poinsettias!!! Hope I'm right! lisa_worden@hotmail.com

  3. OMG! You found candy land! A magical place where it rains peppermint snowflakes! Shame on you, wasting perfectly good candy like that! I wonder, do they come in different flavors? Hey I've got an idea! I'll tell you where Shangri La is, and you tell me about Candy Land!

    1. I feel like this is so obvious, the flower idea sounds about right, but for now I'll stick with peppermint snowflakes.

  4. Yeah... I'm with Lisa, I think you mercilessly slaughtered plastic flowers and made them into something way more aesthetically pleasing.
That or LegoLand is missing a coral reef attraction now?
Whatever it is, I am GAGGING to find out as they jogged my imagination big time.
I want them on a white picture frame, and I want them on my wreath which changes with my moods. I want them around a candle holder and I want them as earrings. Oh, and as a bracelet, preferably with silver and white felt- however I might achieve that has to remain a mystery until you tell us what it is.
I also want them on bobby pins and quite possibly as a christmas mantelpiece garland with mirror tiles and felt balls pretending to be snowflakes.
    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT!
    Want. Now. Uuuumph.

  5. You cut up a fruit basket? Like you get strawberries in? I don't think that would leave the bulb-y parts on the ends though.

  8. An aquarium decoration? Or a comb for a porcupine.

  9. A spray of plastic grapes or berries that you pulled the berries off of.

  10. Ooo, I don't know! I think they're composed of many little branches - note the repeating three prong motif - that you made into the starburst pattern yourself. Beyond that, I really don't know, but I love them! Seriously, that necklace! LOVE! Can't wait to find out how you made these.

    1. Also, they remind me of the little pieces from Hi Ho Cherry O, which is just too cute of an image to resist.

  11. Looks like the plastic stamens from fake flowers to me but then again, that would be too easy. It's all my tired brain cells can think of right now, though so that's my guess.

  12. These are the fake stamens off cheap dollar shop flowers!
Or the fake holly berries off cheap dollar shop holly and ivy.
    Or really, really defective forks.

  13. Wait! I just remembered my flower/plant pollenation class in biology! I think those three prong red things with little balls on the ends are called stigmas, not stamens. I also recall something about flower ovaries but may be way off base on that one. Sounds kinda weird. I'll just go with stigmas but totally forgot the name of the red stem they're on. Am I close? If not, please delete this and save me the embarressment. lol Maybe I was sleeping in class that day and dreamed the ovary part up. Go easy on me. It's been a bazillion years since high school.

  16. I also think that they are berry sprays from a holly or poinsettia bush plastic flower bush spray. Or maybe...They are magical berries from fairyland that you travel to at night that make the wearer invincible! How nice of you to share, Mich! Whatever it is, I can't wait to find out how you made this one.

  17. Definitely the branches from lego trees without the leaves snapped on - we've definitely got bits like this in our lego box anyway!

  18. You stole a parasol from a fairy! Then removed the fabric leaving the support structure.

  22. Graypeape, you are so right: they are mid-century modern light fixtures for faeries. No, wait! The display rack at the Dollar Store where Rudolph buys his nasal replacements. No . . . beats the heck outta me. -- Lola

  24. I'm ashamed. You did horrible horrible things to those little make yard gnomes. I know they tear up your garden, but really? Umma sculpting them seems a little extreme. Did you just talk to them?
