Ooh! Here we go with yet another game of Guess The Mystery Thing! (It's my crafty guessing game giveaway - everyone's invited to play!) Your mission: identify the mysterious secret ingredient in these upcycled necklaces:
What are those brassy pendant pieces? Hmm...I am betting several of you will spot this right away. So I am adding a twist. Can anyone name the correct eleven letter word to describe this item? (Embarrassed update: ahem. It's actually a ten (10) letter word. Ten. 10. Not eleven. Ten. That'll teach me to post in a hurry from inside a
Starbucks with my dog waiting outside with his nose pressed against the
glass saying "Why are you taking so long in there I am bored so bored really really bored hurry UP!!!" )
First person to guess correctly wins a fabulous prize. (Namely, your choice of one of these necklaces.)
How it works: leave your guess in the comments. There'll be two winners:
first correct guess, and a random winner. That's right, I
said random winner - so even if you don't know (or think
someone else already got it), enter anyway, you could still
win. And if your guess is funny, it might make my Most
Creative Honor Roll.
This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere. C'mon, join in!
THE ONE AND ONLY RULE
1. UNLESS YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS ONE CLICK AWAY IN AN ONLINE PROFILE, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH YOUR GUESS. (Fun fact: if you only THINK your email is visible in your profile, it probably isn't.)
UPDATE: THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS FOR PLAYING, EVERYBODY! CHECK MY NEXT POST FOR THE REVEAL AND WINNERS...
is it escutcheons?
ReplyDeleteDarn! Someone beat me to it. I was going to say escutcheon, but that's only 10 letters, but I guess if you have two halves, then that would be plural and then that would be eleven letters. Very clever!!
ReplyDeleteI think there is an alternate spelling of eschutcheon. Not sure what one is actually correct. Great piece.
ReplyDeleteThat was my guess too - but only 10 letters. ?
ReplyDeleteMystical magical keyhole/knocker that allows ordinary mortals to access the world of creative thinking, where we meet the prince/princess of creativity and they grant us the gift of seeing the world through different eyes.
ReplyDeleteOr an escutchie-whatever. Y'know what they ^ said. :D (I don't even know what that is.)
Stripesandsequins.com has a necklace made with period furniture painted brass ESCUTCHEONS for pull handles that I pinned yesterday onto Pinterest (Coincidence! I just learned the word yesterday!!!!) Mich's look like escutcheons cut in half. Or backplates (only 10 letters) I'd love to know how you cut them!!! I agree with Maple Girl that the keyhole allows ordinary mortals to access the creativity sparked by Mich (the princess) letting us see the world through different eyes. Or it can be a mermaid's tail preserved in metal when she knocked into the first iron-clad metal ship that sunk into the deep blue sea.
ReplyDeleteDrawer pulls? That's eleven letters! :-D But I'm pretty sure that's not the technical term...
ReplyDeleteThese are tongue depressors (only ten dang it)that are used by evil Catholic dentists/doctors. They sure do look painful.

DeleteThe prize is very tempting....It look like a bottle opener for me at the first glance...whatever...a WHAT? ESCUTCHEONS???...what the heck...at least I learn a new word today...And my final answer?...I vote for Cara - Drawerpulls!!!!

ReplyDeleteIt's a flur de lis shaped secret key to get into sooper fabulously fun party spots during Mardi Gras? Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....say Mich- there just so happens to be a strand of beads attached to that key! Does that mean you.....you know, EARNED them? (nudge nudge wink wink) ;) Ladiemaus@aol.com
ReplyDeleteOOH! Wait!!! I know I know.. 11 letters... H-I-N-G-E P-L-A-T-E-S!!! (yes I do know that could be another term for escutcheon but cut me a break! I've always wanted to win a coveted MICH IN LA creation!!!) hehehehe
ReplyDeleteOkay... escutcheon(s) was mentioned quite a lot already... so I though I skip the condition of only 11 letters... and say: Schlüssellochdeckel!
ReplyDelete^^
But they lock really cool! Whatever they are, however spelled!
Awesome - I would have said doorknocker - but I am guessing those escutcheon people have me beat.
ReplyDelete"Swoopalinas"? "Flatnflowee"? "Swirlyplate"? "Hanginbrass"? ugh... don't know. I need e scutch 'n soda.
ReplyDeleteIt is the piece that goes on a draw cupboard behind the knob or handle for decoration?
ReplyDeleteawesomeness!
ReplyDeleteI'm not even gonna try to guess for real since previous posters already got it, but I have to say, that piece is amazing! I'm gonna say rosary beads for the French. That fleur de lis looks like A crucifix (okok...tiny arms). lonecorndog@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteOpps! I need to edit my guess but didn't know how to do it without removing it and starting over. It's one of the escutcheons used as the backplate for a doorbell. Whatever it actually is, you did a beautiful job of turning it into a necklace! Thanks for keeping our minds sharp by trying to figure these things out and for sharing your unique creations with us! And no, I'm not sucking up! lol

ReplyDeleteOn Halloween last year we decided to put a real dead pig snout in our science teachers closet. We hung it from the light bulb and waited... and waited. But what we saw was soul rattling. THE PRINCIPAL was walking into the closet but when she went in she just kept walking.... and when she turned it was attached to her face. The lady didn't seem to have noticed! The teacher stood there with his mouth open. He touched it and her whole face turned to metal and it fell to his hands as a cane he walked from the room and well i guess cause you have it that means the evil dude miniaturized it and gave it to you on Mardi Gras
ReplyDeleteSo I'm saying pig oinkers it's so obvious people gosh!
DeleteDefinitely part of a door-pull for a cabinet you know?... Gotta be (and btw, I haven't even had a look-see at the other comments. No I'm closing my eyes to them all!)
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty chic as a pendant!
O was going to say a cabinet hinge, but I'm settling on a robot's shoe horn. Yes, that's iT!
ReplyDeleteIs it a bit of a "doorknocker" - that's 10 isn't it? I can't even pronounce the e-word!!
ReplyDeletewao..another awesome necklace..it seems like a door locker plate..you cut the handle side & its the lower part..may be,,but looking fine.. :)
ReplyDeleteI believe it is a key hole plate for a front door, the lower part. :)
ReplyDeleteopps I almost forgot to leave my email, calcrochetnut@msn.com
Deleteand the word is es·cutch·eon [ih-skuhch-uhn]
an ornamental or protective plate around a keyhole, door handle, drawer pull, light switch, etc.
