Guess the Mystery Thing: A Swoopy Silver Statement.

Hi!  Time to play another round of Guess The Mystery Thing!  A game of wits, street smarts and crafty intuition.  Be first to identify the mysterious secret ingredient in my latest upcycled necklace and win a fabulous prize.  Take a look...

What is that swoopy silver wire?  It came from something quite specific.  Something not usually associated with jewelry!

First prize will be this necklace, or - if it's not quite your style - I'll give you a choice of some other fun jewels from recent posts.  I realize it's kind of big and wild, but it's very fun to wear, and a bit of a dashing statement.

How it works: leave your guess in the comments.  There'll be two winners: first correct guess, and a random winner.  That's right, I said random winner - so even if you don't know (or think someone else already got it), enter anyway, you could still win.  And if your guess is funny, it might make my Most Creative Honor Roll.

This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere.  C'mon and join in!  There is only one rule.

THE ONE AND ONLY RULE

1. UNLESS YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS ONE CLICK AWAY IN AN ONLINE PROFILE, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH YOUR GUESS.  (Fun fact: if you only THINK your email is visible in your profile, it probably isn't.  Go in and make sure, okay?  Nothing's sadder than a winner disqualified for no contact info.)
Ready to give this a whirl?  Okay, people...here we go!  Guess The Mystery Thing!

UPDATE: THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED.  THANKS FOR PLAYING EVERYBODY!  COME BACK FOR THE REVEAL IN MY NEXT POST.

  1. Dashing? Is it an unwoven mesh sleigh wire basket or lampshade? How about a wire cloche? Oh I know! Barbie is communicating with Mars again and she doesn't have the unlimited plan. Mom will be angry.

  2. I don't know if the rules allow two comments...but Mich, you took my tiara and reworked it into a necklace. So I took your bicycle, removed the spokes and made my own necklace. Yours is prettier.

  3. Because I have coffee on the mind tonight, I'm saying the coil from a french press all untwisted and stretched out.

    ReplyDelete
  4. These coils look like the kind inside of furniture cushions or the box springs part of a mattress set. Thanks for sharing your unique creations in such a fun way!

    ReplyDelete
  5. The coils are from a baby mattress or from a chair. The top red things are cherry tomatoes, the hanging yellow thing is a caramel. The hanging red thing is a cherry.

  6. you have been busy reupholstering again and decided you didn't really need the springs in that old chair, and you really really needed a springy thingy for some new neck accessories.
so hey, so what if the chair is a bit softer than before, it's waaayyy comfier without that nasty metal poking you in the back.(you thought I was going to select another part of the body to poke , c'mon admit it.)

  8. I love it! So unique! Is it the wire from those games that are always in the Doctors office, that you take a wire loop round and it flashes or buzzes if it touches the wire? Or the game where you wind the beads round it from one side to the other?
I love the Barbie communicating to Mars idea above!

  11. Is that my new TV antenna that got blew away by the strong storm last night? Never mind...it do look more gorgeous on neck than on the roof! Love this arts piece!

  12. Looks so familiar, kinda like a miniature version of the coils on the back of my refrigerator; I know because I just cleaned back there. This wire, of course, would be from the optional refrigerator you could buy to compliment your "Easy Bake Oven."

  13. Wire from spiral notebook? I've had too many guesses so if someone else thinks so too, you should get the prize even though I love the necklace and yes, I would wear it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Amy - that's what I'm thinking too! I was just coming back here to say that. :) Of course, I already made a guess last night, so I should probably be out of the running with this idea as well.

  15. You semi straightened the coil from a spiral notebook? It's brilliant, whatever it is.
    Hugs!

  16. I LOVE this necklace! And I am soooo thrilled that you were able to hire the person who bends all the paperclips into their right shape to come bend your wire into paperclip-like curves. S/he did a bang-up job! Dena @ denapage@gmail.com

  20. Well, it looks like some wire used for models before you put paper mache on them to make them into shapes.

(of course, I LOVE Dolly Parton's Bra....!)

  21. Ohh..looking nice :) but I have NO idea whats this..! seems something simple but....dont know ..haha

  22. Potato masher...

It is fun looking a bit ethnic.

    ReplyDelete
  23. hm... I don't think the wire was bent when you got your hands on it, at least not a lot. So coat hangers are out. Whisks, too. Maybe you took one of them cheap ginormous spheric paper lanterns, they have wire inside, right? If not that, I'll settle for Homer Simpsons latest EEG... which Dr Hibbert felt the need to immortalize in wire. There, I say it, I haven't a clue. But darn right I would wear that necklace! I love the design, you should really do more with it! Maybe some pieces closer to the neck next. Or maybe bracelets? You know, one layer EEG and a few strips of leather, some lace and .... oh- oooh, you got me all creative :D

  24. either a hanger or metal from a mattress

  25. It is the floral wire that is wrapped around a paddle. The paddle is made out of a sturdy piece of wood and later needed to make match sticks for Barbie's camper. Barbie always gets the good stuff.

  29. I can't even begin to guess this one... I have zero ideas... What's throwing me off is the silveriness i think... Also when I first saw it I thought the top beads were cherry tomatoes and that just made me hungry and thinking about yummy salad... Okay I got one! Is it a deconstructed wire whisk?

  36. Hey finally I know what the mystery item is... (I am guessing without reading any comments so if it is a repeat, I apologize)... It is the springs from a upholstered chair or couch. They probably fell out because you kept jumping on the furniture! Makes a pretty cool necklace!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think its a factory reject paper clip. :D

    (My email is shaina@smree.com)
