This post brought to you by the letter S.

So here's a spiffy little upcycled jewelry idea, which came upon me during an unscheduled, severely boring stop at the auto supply store.  (My husband knows not to take me very often - the same way I don't drag him to bead emporia.)

Are you familiar with S-shaped clasps?  They're quite traditional, especially with certain kinds of ethnic jewelry.  They can be anything from very simple to very ornate.

Now see what I found at the-store-of-boring-things-and-chrome-ladies-with-frankly-impossible-proportions:

S-shaped carabiners.  In the prettiest colors!  I saw them again at a camera shop, and online at a sporting goods chain.  What a nifty, high-tech way to update the traditional S-clasp!

In those examples, I matched the clasp to the necklace colors.  Green with green, purple with purple, right?

But there's no reason at all you can't get playful with color...

Or experimental with length.

And then - mini drum roll? - there's this idea.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

See ya!

  1. I didn't even know they made mini carabiners? Cool beans.

I would also like to note that my spell check does not recognize Carabiners, so I might be commenting about people from the Caribbean. Forgive me.

Nifty stuff. I have a big neck, so I wouldn't mind picking up a few of these just as simple extenders too. Neato!

  11. That's so ugly. Just because you are coming up with new ideas doesn't mean it has to be ugly and chunky like that.
