Decorate with a little flare.

Here is a glass vase with Japanese plum twigs. It sits in my living room.

I love the twigs, but the container...meh. Really, it's pretty much a default glass vase. One of those boring ones that come with florist deliveries, or something from a yard sale.

Its only distinctive feature is the flared neck.

Hey, know what's cool to do with a flare-neck vase?

*Bling!*

Lots cuter! These big chandelier drops were salvaged from a light fixture headed for Goodwill. They already had the hanger wires attached - nothing simpler than hanging them on the vase.

I know you can find one of these flare-neck vases. Once you do, here are a few ideas. Start with some ornament hangers along the rim:

Then just play! You could take apart a decorative fan...

And get this dainty, fandangled look.

Or how about this? I bought a dollar store necklace, and took it apart in sections...

Then I had vase jewels!

That one was very satisfying. I love getting a whole bunch of pre-made dangles - all for a measly buck. Honestly, you're never going to wear that long plastic necklace, are you? It looks so much better on the vase.

You could buy a pack of inexpensive filigree butterflies, and hang them on long wires or short ones...

Here they are long:

And here they are short!

(I just couldn't decide, so I had to include both pictures.)

One last variation, for the steampunker in all of us...

Those are sewing bobbins, plus the silver rings from that dollar store necklace.

Okay, styling this vase is too much fun, I need to stop now! I guess my favorite is still the chandelier drops. Ahhh...love 'em.

What cool items will you find to dangle? Go on, find a boring vase - and decorate with a little flare today!
