A Rainbow Snakelace.
My mom got to go on a big vacation through Greece. And all she brought me was...
...a cool collection of nifty beads! Yay! (All my brothers got were some crummy t-shirts, haha!) My mom knows me pretty well.
I wanted to craft a jewel that kept the beads together, sort of a 'Mom's Greek Vacation' statement. But boy - they really don't go together at all. Here's a sample:
How to pull such wildness into something cohesive? Well! Took me a while, but I finally did come up with an idea. I removed the metallics and neutrals, to be left with a handful of bright hued beads.
I strung them on craft wire, arranged by color into - this was my epiphany - a beady rainbow. I made a wrapped loop at each end, then wiggled it into the shape of a snake.
I added a long thrift store chain...that's it. Check out my Rainbow Snakelace!
Why isn't the word 'snakelace' in the dictionary? It oughta be.
As long as the chain is reasonably weighty, to balance the beaded section, it hangs nicely wherever you arrange it. It's designed for the snake to slither asymmetrically up one side of your throat.
Such a simple and inexpensive project! If it takes your fancy, grab a handful of rainbow-able beads and make one for yourself.
I am so happy with my snakelace! Thanks, little mom. For not buying me a t-shirt.
Oh, I love it! Especially how all the little misfits go nicely together. Say hi to your Mum from me, will you?
